I had the honor of filming my son reading the last part of Matthew 28-the Great Commission on Good Friday as he practiced open air reading of the Gospel. Three short years ago today, he had never heard of God, Jesus, or any of the other familiar Bible stories most children know. Three years ago he didn't even speak or read English.
Those first few months here, I communicated the truths of God and His existence. He told me that in Russia, he had asked many people how the trees got here? Where did the animals come from? Where did all the people come from? Everyone he asked, no one knew. But, he knew deep down there was something bigger in control. Even as a child in a godless country that had spent almost 100 years trying to erase any vestiges of God he, in theory, shouldn't have even ackowledged a Creator for none had ever been spoken to him.
The first book that we studied together was Romans. Romans 1:18-23 states:
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
He would read in his little Russian Bible and I would let the truth of God's word soak in to his heart and soul. Without Sunday school or a preacher to teach him, ONLY the Word of God, and our discussions I asked him one day if he now had an answer to his former questions? He had only been home for 4 months and we still communicated primarily in Russian and I'll never forget his answer as his eyes lit up as he said, "Это Бог!" (It is God!)
He KNEW instinctively in his conscience there was something bigger than him that had to have put this planet and everything on it in motion. He just didn't know who or what it was. Oh the arrogance of the professing "atheist!" You can not say in your heart there is no God only because you deny the muffled screams of your deadened conscience that you suppress! Please, humble yourself and repent and place your faith in Jesus Christ!
The argument which states that you can't use the Bible to prove that there is a God is just not true. God's Word states that even without the Bible that ALL of creation is testimony to the creative hand of the Almighty God. It proved to be true in the life of this little boy who knew there was something bigger than himself and waited until God sought him and plucked him out of a desolate land and revealed Himself to him. Think about these truths and let it sink in.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
This is what He did for all of us and especially for my son. While he was still a sinner He died for him and then because he couldn't seek God, God sought him.
